As I got a little older, I gradually packed on those extra pounds.  I was less active and had stopped some of the fun activities I used to do.  However, I did not really get very concerned until I found that I had become self-conscious.  I started to notice other changes as well.  I had to start buying larger sized clothing.  When I went shopping with a friend in the mall, I was embarrassed as she shopped in specialty stores, but they never had anything that I could fit into.  I actually had to start going into stores that catered to the “larger woman”.  I found less of a choice of the types of things that I could find that I actually liked to wear.

I started to think of different things that I could do to change.  I thought if I took up a new hobby I would become more active.  I selected scrapbooking because it really looked like fun.  I could take classes and meet new friends.  When I started making my first scrapbook album, I noticed many pictures of me from years gone by.  I looked so happy and I was so much thinner. I did not believe how much different I looked then.  I also noticed that there were a lot less pictures of me now.  This really got me thinking about my weight.  I still did not think it was a big problem. 

I noticed other little changes as well.  My mood had slowly changed.  I was feeling sad and upset that I had gained so much weight, but I felt alone and I did not know what to do or where to go to get help.  It seemed that a lot of people I knew were also overweight and it was not really a subject that I could talk to them about.
